Mentor for the DC Health and Academic Prep Program, April- August 2017

Facilitated a 4-week immersive summer program to introduce a diverse group of DC high school students to professions in healthcare and public health. Continue to mentor 4 students as they move on to college. 

Goal: Inspire minority DC students from underserved neighborhoods to pursue careers in healthcare and public health. 

Successes:

  • Developed and led the ‘Community Health Project’ module where students had to identify and research a public health need in their community and create a new program to address it. 

  • Created curriculum for the sessions 'Healthcare around the world' and 'The future of healthcare.'

 
 

 
 

Healing Clinic

Nutrition Education Program Manager, January 2016 - May 

Managed monthly programming to teach nutrition and exercise curriculum at DC Prep Middle School

Goal: Inspire healthy behaviors among middle school students. 

Successes: 

  • Recruited, interviewed, trained and managed GW medical and public health graduate student program volunteers.

  • Helped volunteers plan their own lessons throughout the semester, incorporating their skills and interests.

 

 

Biology Department

Georgetown University

Washington, DC

Role: Teaching Assistant for the Biology Department, September 2011- May 2012

Course: First Year Seminar in Biology (Fall)

Led students in discussions of current biology research, potential careers and eased the incoming Freshman’s transition into the Georgetown biology major.

Course: Biological Chemistry (Spring)

Responsible for assisting students during weekly 3 hour lab exercises and grading all lab assignments.
